Top tips for test-driving a vehicle

• Make time – don’t rush a test-drive over your lunch hour, book it in advance
• Do research – know what the car has to offer and then see if it meets your expectations
• Ask questions – a sales person should be able to give you comprehensive information about the vehicle’s features and history (if it’s a used car)
• Do your budget – know what you can afford beforehand (i.e. a monthly installment) to negotiate a payment structure suited to you
• Compare cars – not sure which car you prefer, then test-drive more than one
• Correct terrain – test-drive the car in similar conditions as to where you’ll be driving it (i.e. city traffic, open road etc.)
• Meet your needs – know what your specific requirements are and see if the vehicle addresses it (i.e. space, safety, fuel economy, versatility etc.)
• Test the car’s drivability – don’t just drive off, try parking, changing lanes, braking hard, executing tight turns etc.
• Test the car’s features – try out the vehicle’s climate system, audio system, seating adjustment and other key features important to you
• Second opinion – take along a friend or family member who could share some insight into helping you make your decision
