The Nissan Navara has excelled in just about every environment it enters. For starters, it’s undeniably attractive, but that doesn’t mean it’s not tough. In fact, the Nissan Navara has proven itself repeatedly in work and leisure use as well as being a highly competent bakkie, both on and off the road. Of course, the Navara has also been dominating motorsport in South Africa since it first entered the arena of off-road competition.
Characterised by its bold trademark stance and unmistakable honeycomb grille, the Navara has always been coveted for its good looks. But it also gets the job done, with a generous carrying capacity of 971kg from one of the largest load boxes in its class with more than a meter between the wheel arches. Plus, the tubular roof rack can hold up to 100kg and is streamlined to reduce wind resistance. The Navara also comes with Nissan’s Utili-track cargo tie down system with moving, adjustable cleats to secure virtually any load.
Interior options and comfort
The driver is treated very well in the Navara too. Tilt adjustable power steering, cruise control, heated power mirrors, driver’s seat lumbar and height adjustment, 6 CD auto changer, Bluetooth connectivity and remote central locking all make for an unexpected level of comfort in a vehicle of this class.
The Nissan Navara comes in both Double Cab and King Cab configurations.
The Nissan Navara Double Cab offers seating for five people in a wide, roomy cabin with lots of storage from a large double deck glove box, central dashboard box, a console between the front seats and storage pockets in all the doors.
The Nissan Navara King Cab has seating for two people with a large cargo area behind the seats. There is a large double deck glovebox, central dashboard box, a console between the seats and storage pockets in all doors.
Power delivery on the Nissan Navara comes with a choice of petrol or diesel engines. The 4.0 litre V6 petrol engine produces 198kW of power and 385Nm of torque while diesel power is available from a 2.5 litre turbo diesel with 126kW of power and 403Nm of torque on the 4x4 models or a 106kW, 356Nm torque version on for the 4x2 models.
Of course, great power requires able handling as well. That’s why the Navara is built on a strong high tensile steel ladder chassis with welded cross members. Rack and pinion steering and compact independent suspension provide confident handling, on whichever surface you drive. Three driving modes are available: 2WD, 4WD (50/50 split) and 4WD (high and low ratio). The Nissan Navara 4WD also has a manually operated differential lock as standard for a 50/50 power split to both rear wheels.
Safer in every environment
Safety equipment on the Nissan Navara includes accurate power steering along with both ABS anti-lock braking and Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) as standard. Nissan Brake Assist (SE and LE models) further enhances safety by sensing an emergency stop and increasing braking to reduce stopping distance. For collision protection, the zone body construction of the cabin provides a strong, protective safety cell while driver and front passenger airbags offer impact protection. Security on the Navara comes from the Nissan Anti-Theft System (NATS) with Datadot theft deterrent system.
